Dr. Al Mandous currently serves as the President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and was elected to this prestigious position in June 2023.
Dr. Al Mandous holds the position of Director General at the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) and has been the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the WMO since 2008.
Under his visionary leadership, NCM has undergone a substantial modernization of its infrastructure and has enhanced the UAE's national meteorological and seismological networks. Notably, he has played a pivotal role in the development of the Arabian Peninsula Integrated Radar Observing System and has led NCM's efforts in establishing The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science.
- Extend the possible onsite support to PRs of need during the extreme weather events
- Engage with the Presidents in their activities and provide the adequate support upon their need
- Strengthen the voice of NMHSs and their PRs to advance the state of meteorology and weather services in their respective regions
- Promote institutional capacity development of Members
- Uptake the Executive Action Plan unveiled at COP-27 on Early warning for All and lead the implementation
- Ensure Policy, Technical & Financial solutions are in place to fast track the implementation
- Advance our science to find a solution to high resolution Numerical Earth System Weather to Climate Prediction
- Encourage appropriate observational and modelling capabilities around the world, particularly in vulnerable regions
- Ensure WMO visibility and recognition by UN agencies as well as General public
- Enhance Media Exposure and awareness about WMO’s crucial role as the primary resource of expertise, information, products and services related to weather, climate, water and other related areas
- Enable members to provide enhanced hydrological services for better water resources management
- Support the transition to renewable energy through tailored weather, water and climate services
- Reinforce WMO role and involvement in participating as key stakeholder in the Renewable energy projects
